For some reason, I always thought that “The Boondock Saints” was a show on the Cartoon Network, so I never really showed any interest in seeing it and I don’t remember it being in the theaters at all. I happened to come across the DVD at Walmart and figured why not? I was quite pleasantly surprised.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Willem Defoe; I just kind of put up with him in the movies I watched. I was never impressed or excited about his work. This was by far his best work I’ve seen him do. He is very believable in his role of a gay FBI agent. Strange, I know. Flannery and Reedus do a great job as well, but can be a bit over dramatic at times. Rocco adds some comedic value, but has a hard time trying to be serious.
It was filmed very well, using some great camera angles and techniques. The way the film progresses required some fantastic editing to make the plot believable and stay in order without getting to confusing. The soundtrack and musical score were awesome, adding a mix of classical as well as techno and a mix of Irish added as well. It was timed perfectly, adding to the ambiance of the film.
It is a fun show to watch, with a lot of action and great one liners, you won’t be disappointed. It’s not as good as , say “Reservoir Dogs” but I think it’s a great show to fill that violent void in your life!
